What a terrible loss. I had the priviledge of filming Humph performing on stage with fellow legends Acker Bilk and George Melly at the Beaulieu Jazz Picnic in the summer of 2006. I also interviewed him at the Millfield Theatre in North London that year. What a terrificly talented and funny gentleman. It was an honour to have briefly crossed his path.

Endless joy, many giggles, the odd gasp of disbelief - they threw away the mould after Humph...... Heartfelt sympathy to family and friends

Humphrey Lyttleton gave me more pleasure than any other broadcaster. Utterly irreplaceable.
David Banks, 25/04/2008 22:41
There is only one word. "Irreplaceable".
Jeremy Phillips, 25/04/2008 22:39
I am very sad to hear this terrible news. I saw Humph in Sunderland at ISIHAC last year and he was wonderful, bright and brilliant. He will be sadly, sorely missed.
Alex Collier, 25/04/2008 22:39

Absolutely gutted, Humph made me laugh and I mean really laugh.

So very sad to hear this. I am so grateful for the happiness he brought to others and am mourning with those who mourn him - family, friends and those who benefited from his presence.

Always entertaining and so witty. I've chuckled along to the radio with Humph many, many times. Age did not dull his wit. God Bless!

Real sad - another true legend gone. Play on up above Humph, play on!

The only record that my wife and I had in duplicate when we met over 27 years ago was the 10" LP of Humph at the R F H and we listened to it again tonight. Thanks Humph for all the enjoyment, laughter and great sounds you have given to us over the years and, as Dave Allen put it "May your God go with you"

Very sad news, a tremendous influence on me for the past 50+ years. He shaped much of my taste in jazz through radio, books and best of all through his always entertaining gigs and concerts. A truly great man and a great loss to broadcasting. My thoughts are with the family at this time.
Bill, 25/04/2008 22:16
How very sad. My sympathy to his family and friends.

Wit, trumpeter of taste, calligrapher of distinction, purveyor of blue chip filth and the inspiration for the name of my dog - a light has gone out. RIP Humph.
