Mrs Trellis must be devastated -I am too. I thought he was going to live forever.....I will miss your naughtiness, humanity and music Humph. Keep them laughing and jamming up there...

Jacqui, 30/04/2008 09:37

You can never be thanked enough for all the laughs, silliness and fun you brought to both the radio and music. You played beautifully and you loved laughter as much as you loved music. You've left a vast hole that will never be filled in the same way again.

Dennis O'Neill, 30/04/2008 09:35

Music and humour are uniquely human qualities, you were especially blessed and shared that with everyone. That made my life a little more enjoyable and light. I will miss you, goodness knows how your family and friends will feel. Humph, thank you so much for all the extra smiles and laughter.

Kevin Dontenville, 30/04/2008 09:30

Humph's music was the only good thing in my miserable year as a boarder at school in the 50s, and later on he provided the highlights of my radio listening when he chaired 'I'm sorry I haven't a Clue'. I wish he could have gone on forever.

Ann Howard, 30/04/2008 09:16

What ever he did it always appears effortless but this comes from commitment and dedication. I will miss his voice

David Wilson, 30/04/2008 09:11

Only heard the news this morning...Radio 4 will never be the same again. Such a drole and witty man - he cannot be replaced and will be very sadly missed. May he RIP.

Gabriel, 30/04/2008 09:10

Great man, an inspiration.

Tim Hughes, 30/04/2008 08:55

Humphs passing will leave a big hole in many peoples lives. he was someone whom we wished had gone on forever. Very few people were blessed with the same quality of musical talent and verbal humour. RIP Humph

Hugh, 30/04/2008 07:57

A huge huge loss to everyone on radio four and the Jazz world. I absolutely loved his music one of the best trumpters ever and comic timing on I'm sorry I haven't a clue was superb. He will be greatly missed

Alison, 30/04/2008 07:49

I will always remember Humph with the greatest of affection. His warmth and charm were unforgettable and made those of us who listened to him on the radio feel that we were hearing from an old friend. My deepest sympathies go out to Humph's family and friends, who were so lucky to have shared their lives with so lovely a fellow. When I listen to those old "Clue" recordings, I will remember Humph, not with sadness, but with happiness at a life so very well lived. RIP Humphrey Lyttleton.

Goodbye Humph, God bless you. I'll miss you so much on the radio....your voice and your trumpet! and your humour.... oh yes, that too!! You will never be replaced - that's impossible. I am so glad our paths ran alongside each other for a while anyway. bye...... Audrey

Audrey, 30/04/2008 02:39

Devastated. I'll miss your great wit and awesome trumpeting Humph. Make St. Peter laugh!

James Hall, 30/04/2008 00:32

You inspired me to keep going. Will miss you

Helen And Jon, 30/04/2008 00:32

God bless - the other side will now be even more radiant. Thank you for bringing so much laughter into our house for so many years.

Nicholas, 30/04/2008 00:09

I was so sad to hear that Humph had passed on. He was such a wonderful man to listen to both musically and all those quick witted dodgy jokes he used to come out with. I shall miss going to his concerts at Buxton and Gainsborough where he always gave a brilliant show. Condolences to his family, friends and band members.R.I.P. Humph.

Peter Cobb, 29/04/2008 23:56

A little bit of our lives have changed forever and people of Humphs calibre are sorely needed in these dark and politically correct days. We will never see or hear the likes of this great and and funny man again. REST IN PEACE HUMPH AND I HOPE YOU FIND THE QUICK ROUTE TO MORNINGTON CRESCENT WITH SWANEE WHISTLES AND KAZOOS TO SERENADE YOU ON YOUR WAY . PS Mrs Trellis sends her love.

Tom Salter, 29/04/2008 23:55

They are all waiting up there for you to arrive, so you can teach them how to play Mornington Cresent.

Peter Gee, 29/04/2008 23:11

An irreplaceable loss to the worlds of jazz and comedy.

Graham Puddephatt, 29/04/2008 23:07

Having never seen Hump before my girlfriend and I finally caught him in the ISIHAC stage show at Bristol last year. I am pleased to say that I saw him live, ok not performing jazz but still in one of the roles that he is best remembered for. I am deeply saddened by the news and would pass on my condolences to all.
