Thank you, dear irreplaceable Humph, for a million laughs. How your nearest and dearest must miss you dreadfully. My dearest wishes go to them. I saw him last in Harrogate just a few weeks ago, and am shocked he should dare to pass away without Samantha, who will have to play with herself now I guess? But it was wonderful that he got his trumpet out at the end of that wonderful evening, which not only Sam thought was blown beautifully. You will be sadly missed by milliions. Jeremy

I never met Humphrey Littleton. I wish I had. The nearest I got to him was to enjoy his music and his infamous comedy broadcasts for the BBC. Humphrey and his like were and I hope are, of a mould. I have no talent to articulate how and why I feel such a regard for Humphrey. ..so...I nicked some stuff! "....through hands such as these, God speaks, and from behind their eyes He, smiles upon the Earth" er ".. whoever you imagine Him to be" " ...might be me?.." Khalil Gibran, Max Ehrman, Dave Fowler

So saddened by the loss of a truely unique man. It was always a delight to have listened to so many programmes and regret that I never heard him 'live'. I amongst many others will be the poorer for his passing. Please accept our most sincere condolences and may we offer the family our traditional wish of 'long life'.
Michael Abery, 29/04/2008 19:43
We are all so much the poorer for his loss. I'm sure he would want us to remember him cheerfully though and I will - what a wonderful, wonderful man. Rest in peace Humph xx

The world has lost one of the great entertainers and musicians. If only everyone could give so generously as Humph did throughout his life, both in his music and in his comedy. Gone but never forgotten.

Loved the radio2 shows. But always a funny chap on Radio4's I.S.I.H.A.C. As a devoted fan will miss him much.

I'm just listening to the tribute show, broadcast on Sunday - thick white, thick black, thin white etc. What else do we need to say - he was just the business - I saw the show live twice, and have recordings going back years - just perfect. And that trumpet. Thanks for it all Humph.

I was genuinely saddened to hear of Humph's passing from us. I never had the pleasure of meeting the man so its a measure of his warmth, humour and humanity that news of his death brought tears to my eyes. My sympathies are with those who knew him best. Yoff

It is always a bad day when someone who brings joy to the world in Humph's case it is a bad year. My regret is that I will now never get to see him chair ISIHAC. He will be greatly missed.

Being a life long fan of Humph and lover of his music as well a ISIHAC, I am greatly saddened by Humph's death. We will all miss him as he held a very special place in the hearts of so many of us in Britain. He truly was a pivotal cultural figure and my thoughts go out to his family. Thanks for everything you gave us Humph, you entertained us for well over 50 years, but you still left us wanting more, what an achievement!

I was bought up listening to jazz, 'bad penny blues' being one of the main tunes blasting out from dad's stereo! Later I discovered the delights of ' I'm sorry I haven't a clue ' - brilliant! Humph's delivery and iconic voice will be sorely missed and I am sorry for your loss.
Sam Quantrill, 29/04/2008 18:32
ISIHAC never fails to cheer me up, whatever my mood. I'd like to see it continue as I see that as the best way to keep Humph's memory with us always. I'm off to listen to his jazz recordings now. I'm ashamed to admit I've never listened properly to them before. RIP

As an avid radio 4 listener - I will miss Humphrey's voice so much. It brought so much laughter to my life especially now that I have moved to the USA. I listen online to radio 4 these days. He was a giant of a man and so much loved even though I didn't really know him in person. That didn't matter. His personality was always apparent with every show of 'I'm sorry I haven't a clue'. God bless you and may your gentle soul rest in perfect peace. XXXX

Comedy will never be the same, and you will be missed. RIP.

The first jazz concert I attended at all was with Humph and his band (including Tony Coe, Ed Harvey, Tony Mann), 1964 or 1965 in Backnang, South Germany. Since then I´m a fanatic jazz fan, playing the drums myself, having a large collection of records, CDs and books, amongst them many played or written by my idol. And I had the honour to be the presenter for ten years with 628 issues of RMB Swingtime, Germany´s longest running jazz broadcast of a private radio station. Now at the age of 60 I owe him a life full of joyful music. Being very sad that he has passed away I have to say THANK YOU. You will never be forgotten. Theo Bachteler, Weinstadt/Stuttgart, Germany
