Rest in peace Humph. Thanks for all the laughter. We'll never forget you.

My father and I would like to thank you, Humph, for all the fun and laughter you gave us. Rest well, you deserve it. Harry and David Macqueen

Harry Macqueen, 29/04/2008 17:07

I took my daughter to see Humph at the Bulls Head a couple of months ago. The whole place resonated with his civilised good humour. Truly uplifting. Music wasn't half bad either.

I just wanted to say how sad I was to hear the news of Humph's death. I had worried when I heard that he was ill but it still came as a shock. I am so thankful that I wrote to him a couple of weeks before he died and I will always treasure the laughs he has given all my family over the years with his brilliant chairmanship of ISIHAC. Jamie

I first heard Humph's music when I was a naive sixteen year old and my ears were opened and I've never tired of listening. It's so creative and it now feels like some part of my life has slipped away. Gabriel will welcome Humph I'm sure.

When I was at school in my mid-teens I heard some music coming from record player, the like of which I'd never heard before. It turned out to be something called jazz, and it was Humphrey Lyttleton's band. It sparked a fascination with jazz which I have followed all my life. Thanks, Humph, for that and all the other blessings you've given us.

I will miss Humph very much, for more years than I care to admit to, he was.... 'my Monday night' ....he gave me many many years of pleasure. Thank you 'HUMPH' RIP

I put this on my blog ..Like a lot of the best people around ...or not around in this case...I only really got to know anything about Humphrey Littleton at the dog-eared end of his life. His music...or at least what I heard of it was a bit ..sort of...well oldy jazzy ...I know that Im treading on eggshells here...make of that what you like BUT...where he really did come into his own ...and when I LOVED him...was his radio thing ..."Who's line is it anyway"...Mornington Crescent of course ...wanna play? I particularly liked the way he ended his shows ...of which I poignantly quote here "as the BMX roadstar of time collides with the erratic minicab of fate and the young unprotected crutch of hope slams hard against the crossbar I bid you goodnight and a real favourite : as the new born chick of hope tumbles from the egg shell of life and splashes into the frying pan of doom I bid you goodnight But anyone that loves the man as I do ..would know all this already ...I wish I was at his funeral Goodnight Humph

Humph was a huge favourite in our house - my sons and I loved listening to him (whatever he was doing, on any show) and we'll really miss him. Our thoughts are with his family. God bless. x

We mourn a great character and an icon of classical jazz. His music will live on.

A little bit of magic has disappeared from our airwaves. Rest In Peace.

What sad news, one of those times that makes you stop and think. I had the pleasure of seeing Humph with his band and also on numerous occasion with ISIHAC. Never anything but a joy. I took my 17 year old son to see ISIHAC in Manchester last year, Humph the star as ever, and one of the few things my son and I could share together, laugh and enjoy, surely that is it, timeless, ageless, good times. I will miss him, no more scrabbling to try and get tickets, no more joyful Monday evenings. Must have needed a good bloke and musician wherever he has gone. Thanks.

A lovely, lovely man who will be sadly missed. A wonderful musician possessing great charm and a marvellous sense of humour. God bless you Humph. P.S. Please, please correct the mis-spelling of "desiccation" on the Home page. We don't want Humph's memory tarnished in any way. Thank you.

Ron Green, 29/04/2008 14:32

Very sad, I was 10 in 1972, and for the vast majority of my life I have been laughing at "I'm Sorry". There have been few things that have made me laugh more. Add to that the musical talent as well...........a great loss to humour and music. I never met, and didn't know Humph personally at all (apart from through his public persona), but I hope he would smile at the fact that on this web site under "concerts" the following can be seen "There are no planned live events featuring Humphrey Lyttelton in the near future."

David Larkins, 29/04/2008 14:28

His passing is characterised by sadness but his legacy remains one of happiness and laughter. This is not original, I read it on another site, but it seemed to me to be fitting: "Please send me your new address", Mrs Trellis of North Wales.

Dear family and friends of Humph, Deepest condolences for your loss. It was a privilege to have listened to him, as musician, gentleman, and wise fool. He was obviously well-loved; that must have sprung from you; and so passed to us, his audience. Many thanks. yours in gratitude for a good life well-lived, Katherine

Katherine Kaye, 29/04/2008 14:19

Of the many things I will remember about our Humph my favourite memory will always be him giving me an autograph after the clue tour show. The man was so approachable and kind, even after a hard show and with a desire to go home. A legend and very much missed. RIP Humph, and my best wishes to his family.

Jolyon Thompson, 29/04/2008 14:17

My deepest sympathies for your loss. Sunday mornings will never be the same. He was an amazing man and an inspiration to us all. May he rest in peace.
