I regret I came across his work only recently but the width has definately made up for the length.

From the concerts page of this web site: 'There are no planned live events featuring Humphrey Lyttelton in the near future.' I like to think that Humph would've chuckled at this. Good jazz and good humour. Heaven is a better place now that Humph is there.

What an incredible man, what an amazing life. Undoubtably, one of this countrys greatest human beings. Musician, jazz man, jazz fan, impeccable broadcater, humourist, author, cartoonist. He led a full, rich life and has leftt us a rich legacy. God bless ya Humph. Goodbye now.

Oh Humph, you were brilliant! I caught the end of the last show on R2 the other week, and was gutted to hear it was the end. It seemed the end of an era. I had no idea you were ill. The music was what got me first - my father introduced me to your music at a very early age, and the comedy followed. My favourite quote has to be... ...and so, as the fluff-ball of time pops out of the navel of destiny, and the nylon underpants of fate ride uncomfortably up the cleft of despair... Thanks Humph, you've made me laugh a thousand times!

Dear 'ole Humph - I am sorry that you are no longer with us but thank you for so many, many hours of fantastic laughter. Although credit must also be given to the writers, creators, techicians and, naturally, the great contibutors, it was your dead-pan delivery and false sincerity that made the programmes so special. Amd special they certainly were. Thank you BBC for choosing such a great cast, and for allowing Humph to give of his best. He was unique. Sadly there will be impersonators, but no-one will ever equal his comic delivery and wonderful voice. I, and many others, will miss his contribution to UK radio very much. I wish his family and relatives my deep sympathy, and hope they can be content that this great man was one of the finest broadcasters ever to grace to Radio Four. Bob Bate, Woking

ISIHAC introduced me to the genius of Humphrey Lyttelton, one of the funniest men, and definitely THE funniest octogenarian, ever to grace the airwaves. One of my biggest regrets is that I never got to see chairing the panel live. However, I was lucky enough to see Humph and his band in Mansfield last year, and I actually got to shake hands with the man himself! He will be greatly missed. RIP

I'm so very sorry to hear the news. Truly one of the nicest and funniest people in the world. He will be missed; irreplaceable. The last time I felt this sad about the passing of someone I'd never met was when Peter Cook left us.

So long, farewell, Humph. You were a great musician, a peerlessly funny bloke, a great presenter, and, above all, a true gentleman. A life well lived. Thanks for all the laughter.

I was a late starter when it came to knowing who Humph was, introduced to him via ISIHAC. He put a smile on my face every time I heard his his voice. It's not an exageration to say he lit up my day. A truly sad time for entertainment.

If anyone saw me in Orange Peko in Barnes on Saturday afternoon in floods of tears, I was only trying to contain my mirth while reading the Daily Mail tribute to Humph - honest! I nearly expired in the process. Thank you Humph, for all the joy you have given and no doubt will continue to give me for many years to come. Frederick

Living in Norway, I was introduced to ISIHAC two years ago by a good friend of mine. Last summer (2007) we bought tickets to the Wimbledon recordings and had a marvelous time there. Thank you Humph for gving us so much!

So long, Humph, and thanks for providing so much good music and entertainment on stage and record, on "Best of Jazz" and "Clue" over an amazingly long and varied career. All of this was achieved with admirable modesty, integrity and good humour. You'll be missed more than you could have imagined. Ken Mathieson

I was so saddened to hear that Humph had passed away and I offer my thoughts to his family. As a relatively young radio fan, nothing had the quality that Im sorry I havent a Clue had with Humph at the helm. I looked forward always to each series and regularly listened to each show again on the internet. My wife used some of his wonderful command of the English language to help teach her English classes at school for 9-13 year olds. I would even sit in the car until the show finished before going into my house! I feel honoured to have been able to experience his talent. I will really really miss him, he was wonderful and made half an hour seem like one minute, it was never enough and I sincerely thank him for the laughter he gave to me. God bless you Humph.

I'm sitting here in a hotel in Oslo listening to Humph (ISIHAC) back in 1995.....just lovely!! I have often had to pull off a Motorway because I'd've crashed the car if I'd carrried on laughing. And I've seen drivers in adjacent cars laughing along with me. And seen fellow passengers listening to the comedy channel half way across the Atlantic...What could be greater than that - irreplaceable. Not many are.
