Our deepest sympathies to Humph`s family on the loss of this wonderful man. His writings ,music and numerous radio and television helped to bring sanity to the world. On the occasions that we had the pleasure of his company , his humour and encouragement will never be forgotten.Thankyou Humph. R.I.P. The Harlem Ramblers , Zurich , Switzerland

Having had Humph to play at Granvilles on several occasions we felt we knew him quite well-that was the sort of person he was-made you feel as though he was interested in you even though we were all much more interested in him! He was a Gentleman through and through ,to whom there seemed to be no age barriers -he entertained my ,then 6 year old, daughter with many stories during an interval and they were laughing at each others doodles! We had been trying for two fruitless years [ he was always too booked-up!]to get him back to play again and had settled on October -now I am sure we are not alone in the thought-'There is no-one that can fill his shoes' We will all miss him x

So very sad to read of the passing away of such a prolific, versatile talent. A cliche it might sound when one describes him as irreplaceable but in Humph's case there really won't be another of his kind again.Wish I could've thanked the great man himself for all of the laughs and enjoyment he gave me over the years. An astonishing talent and one who so many of us will continue to remember with deep affection.

Celestially. Humph meets Beethoven, now there's a gig!

I have listened to, and loved, ISIHAC since I was 12 years old.( I'm 48 now)Those warm, funny men have been something of a regular fixture in my life. Increasingly, over the last few years it has been Humph's show ; he just made me laugh so much. All over the country, thousands of us doubled up and helpless while straining the pasta, feeding the cats, just sitting with a cup of tea and listening to half an hour of Humph and the team.He is irreplaceable.Thankyou

Thanks for the countless hours of fun. I'll miss you. What am I going to do on Monday evenings?

It was a sad day when Humph left this mortal coil. He leaves behind many friends and admirers. He was a truly talented and multi-faceted man. Am an avid fan of “I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue”, his chairmanship was fantastic and was always undertaken with plenty of warmth, timing and comic genius. He brought much happiness and laughter into our house. Would never miss a recording and such was the richness of the talent, the repeats were somehow simply better. Over the last two years I was privileged to attend a few live recordings and the respect and friendship emanating from the team was unmistakable. We will miss you kind Humph.

So long, Humph. The world would have been a poorer place without you.

I am a diehard fan of ISIHAC and also of the 'Bad Penny'. I was terribly sad to hear of Humph's passing ... I am many miles away from home but have kept in touch with the fun that was ISIHAC. I was privileged to listen and to laugh out loud at the silliness ... the sheer genius ... of Humph's direction ... I will be terribly sad if ISIHAC finishes, but I will understand if it does. Who could do it? Graham Garden could .... but would he want to? My deepest condolences to his family ...... millions of them I am sure! susannah

Thanks for the laughs and the fun - listening to ISIHAC over the airways has helped me in my downtimes as I settle into my new life in NZ. Will be sadly missed - but I bet the angelic horn section is really swinging now! God Bless

First of all, I'm not a jazz person, so I won't comment other that Humph seemed to be highly regarded, especially by Louis Armstrong, and regards in the jazz sphere don't seem to get better than that. What I really loved about Humph was his immaculate timing, the totally deadpan delivery, and his ability to make everyone else sound idiotic, despite the fact that the people were as quick-witted as him. He was a genius, and I hope Radio 4 or 7 repeat the whole set from 1972 onwards, and keep repeating them. I'm a comedy fan and have been for most of my life, but there were parts of ISIHAC that had, and still have crying tears of pure laughter. Those are the tears that I shed for a great musician, comedian and humanist - tears of joy and laughter. I'm sure he's looking down at me now and saying " hmm". God bless you Humph, you made a lot of people hysterically happy, and you'll continue to do so.

I'm twenty four and i only got into Clue last year. I was completely amazed by how my family hadn't told me about the show. to me it seemed to be the most out there comedy on the radio and totally eclipsed all other panel shows i had seen before. It was pure joy from start to finish. I was completely mesmerized by the show and of course Humph and i'm lucky because i managed to go to see it in the best of format that toured last year.. Thinking about Humph playing we'll meet again at the end brings a little tear to my eye! It's already been said how great he was at presenting and is a bench mark for others. He just made me expand how funny, kind and magnificant human beings can be. WHAT A LEGEND! HUMPH YOU ARE THE BEST!

A light has gone out in my life, I am so grateful for the joy that Humph so modestly gave over the years.

Two old expats lovingly remember Humph since the 1950s - our first date at Mac's, our introduction to jazz which has flourished since - keeping his memory and his music alive now through my Jazz programme on 4CCR, Bundaberg, Queensland. We knew him as a real genius and genial 'Gentleman of Jazz' - RIP dear friend and mentor.

I remember the enjoyment that I have been given by Humphrey Lyttleton; from visits to Jazz clubs in the late fifties to the amusement pf listening to his radio shows. His multi-faceted talents will be greatly missed.
