My sincerest condolences to the Lyttelton family and Humph's friends. There are almost too many great things to say about Humph. I am just so sorry that such a wonderfully gentle, kind, talented and funny person has passed away. It is not an exaggeration to say that he was a national treasure, I think people feel a real sense of loss at Humph's passing - he really was inspirational, but rather than perhaps think "oh no, no more laughs from Humph, I like to think, thank God here was here at all.

Humph will be dearly missed by so many folks! While I first "met" him through Clue, my fondness for his wit and vitality made me seek out his music and book. My like and respect for the man doubled thereby. His influence and the obvious affection people had for him is profound. I'm 45 years his junior, never met him here in Nowhere, USA. But I'll miss him as if he were a favorite great-uncle who made us all cheer when he brought out the trumpet at the family shin-digs!

This is the first time I've ever felt moved to send a tribute when a well-known person has died. Humph was quite simply inimitable and I can say nothing more than thank you for adding something so positive to my life for as long as I can remember. I will listen to you on recordings to the end of my days.

Saddened. Thanks Humph for the laughs!

Like many people, I didn't know Humph at all; but in a way we all did. I loved his husky, sardonic voice and his bon mots on "Clue" reduced me to tears of laughter, particularly his references to Samantha and Lionel Blair! RIP great man.

Humph was one of my jazz heroes! I"discovered" his Music via my Mother ( a great fan & now 85) when I was about 12 years old ( now 63) I have an large collection of his records form 78's to Vinyl,Tapes & CD's. I have been to many concerts and talked with Humph several times. He was always so polite & he understood when my 37 year marriage broke up after wife had another affair after our daughter died of a brain tumour & I told him "my love for his music outlasted my marriage"!! I loved his wicked dry humour both on the bandstand & "I'm Sorry" etc. HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN KNIGHTED for his services to Jazz & Broadcasting!! Where would Jagger & McCartney be without Humph, Chris Barber & Lonnie Donegan to pave the way!! My sincere condolences to his Family & all current & previous Band members!!

If ever one wanted somebody to live forever (obviously including family , close friends etc) it would have been "Sir" Hump for all the enjoyment and laughter he brought- not since the passing of another great , Brian Johnston, many years ago have I felt so sad to lose such a broadcasting great- I will treasure the live shows I saw and remember , always, the funniest chairman of them all. Thanks Hump - you were the tops

You will be greatly missed by so many people who have such fond memories of your contribution to Jazz and the world of Entertainment as a whole. Your engaging dry wit will also be missed.

Thank you for the countless hours of humour you have given the whole world on ISIHGAC. Always unexpectedly daring and challenging, the world needs, but will probably not find, too many more like Humph.

Thank you so much for being a man with a grasp of the absurd beyond most lesser mortals. Wasn't a great fan of Jazz though, me but you can't have it all. Tears have been brought to my eyes for the wrong reasons for a change. My condolences to your family and many friends. Thanks again.

We were in Harrogate to see Humph just two weeks ago, as a family he made us laugh until we ached.... ....the memories, the laughs, the music.... He gave us so much. Thanks Humph Mark, Suzanne and family

I used to listen to I'm Sorry,,,,, on my way to and from gigs. I regularly had to pull the car over because I couldn't see through the tears of laughter induced by Humph'. He was a truly remarkable talent who'll be sadly missed.
