Was the guy that made ISIHAC what it was, i'm only 25 but loved it immensely due to Humph (and Barry Cryers laugh) :)

Thank you so much for being a man with a grasp of the absurd beyond most lesser mortals. Wasn't a great fan of Jazz though, me but you can't have it all. Tears have been brought to my eyes for the wrong reasons for a change. My condolences to your family and many friends. Thanks again.

We were in Harrogate to see Humph just two weeks ago, as a family he made us laugh until we ached.... ....the memories, the laughs, the music.... He gave us so much. Thanks Humph Mark, Suzanne and family

Mark Gorst, 28/04/2008 16:24

I used to listen to I'm Sorry,,,,, on my way to and from gigs. I regularly had to pull the car over because I couldn't see through the tears of laughter induced by Humph'. He was a truly remarkable talent who'll be sadly missed.

Brian Le Vell, 28/04/2008 16:19

May he rest in peace in the Great Dollis Holding Loop in the sky. We all miss you Humph

I shall miss his warm and mischievious humour and his brilliant musicianship. I think we thought he would last forever and only wish he had. Such a sad loss for his family and friends - my thoughts are with them. I am quietly weeping here but can't help smiling as well . I can just imagine his comments at such behaviour from a total stranger to him - but he wasn't a stranger to me.

To hear his voice on the radio was to know that though the rest of the world might be going mad around you, their was still a rock of stabililty to cling on to. With his passing goes another cherished link to when the world was a better place. He will be missed.

Without exception, Humph gave us more pleasure than any other entertainer. He had a huge influence on my love and understanding jazz - expecially through the Best of Jazz. I'm Sorry I haven't a Clue was unique - Humph made it his own. One one occasion, I very nearly crashed my car listening to one edition - from Cardiff, I think it was - as I was laughing so much I almost lost control. And his concerts - especially those with the great Elkie Brook - were memorable. The last time I heard him live was in August 2006, in Malvern, which was just sublime. I do hope they are planning a memorial service or concert - though I dont think there's a venue large enough to accommodate everyone. God Bless you Humph - we loved you. David Hide

Of similar age to Humph, I have watched and listened to him with admiration for many many years from my homes in Liverpool and North Wales. I feel a great sense of loss.

Dear Humph Now that I don't have your right hand to sit on ..... would you be really offended if I sat on Cryer's for a while - just to try it out you know...! If I don't like his I will try Garden and then Brooke-Taylor...you know what they say if on the one hand..you can't find what you want...etc etc! I'll always love you Big Boy...! S XX

I have lived in Belgium for over 20 years. 'I'm Sorry I haven't a Clue' has been a real umbilical cord with the UK and 'Humph' towered over a great team. He was a a hugely talented, enormously human man whose like I am unlikely to see again. He will be grteatly missed.

Reg Green, 28/04/2008 15:53

Having been a long-term fan of the great man, I finally saw a recording of ISIHAC last year. Thank you Humph and I hope you have Samantha to minister to you wherever you are. Me, I'm in Mourning Crescent.

Kris Russell, 28/04/2008 15:53

Thanks for the silliness, Humph. You delighted all of us in so many ways.

Nancy Taylor, 28/04/2008 15:50

Thank you for all the laughter.

Ros Tucker, 28/04/2008 15:49

Humph gave me so much pleasure as chairman of ISIHAC that, as an ex-pat in the USA, I thought of him and the teams as my little bit of England. I will miss him as much as chairman Humph as for hos trumpet playing and band

Paul Mellor, 28/04/2008 15:45

I have nothing but fond memories of a fine chap, I only really gigged once with the band, just last year at the fairfield Halls , croydon, and enjoyed it so much, and was delighted at the wonderfully diverse material the band played, our paths crossed many times and it was always a fun experience, i only wish we could have played more together, Dear humph, lets hope I can carry on blowing like you did ,...
