Thanks, Humph... I wish I'd met you, but we all knew - and loved - you! I can't put my feelings better than what I wrote yesterday on My Blog.

First memories of Humph and co-founder Wally Fawkes with friends jammin' at the Stork Hotel, Liverpool circa 1950 after their appearance scheduled for the Empire had been canceled due to claimed contract or union infringements . . . . they were going to play that night or else ! And what a night! And his weekly treat with Jazz Club and so many other musical involvements. I have been domiciled in the US since '57 so had to listen to him "second hand" but I shall look forward to meeting Humph again in the musical hereafter!

He was a marvellous man who brought pleasure to many people through his personality, music and humour. He will be sadly missed by his friends, family and fans.

I have just read the Concerts Tab There are no planned live events featuring Humphrey Lyttelton in the near future keep it there, it's perfect - he was a great gentleman, will be missed and remembered.

very sad news , you made my drive home from work sometimes dangerous because i was often wiping the laughter tears from my eyes. A tragic loss to hump's family, friends any many fans of all ages. RIP Humph

The world has lost a very special man. Humph always made me cry with laughter - A truly intelligent man with fantastic timing. I will miss his dry humour and wit. My best wishes and thoughts to his family at this time.

Dear Humph. If I may be so informal, but i feel I know you. You have been like a very close friend, always welcome in my home. Be it on the Jazz air waves or Im Sorry I Havent a Clue. In both wonderful programmes there will be no one to replace you, so I guess they will now both finish...a sad end of a wonderful era. My big regret now is not seeing you live and writing this to you when its too late for you to read it. Thank you Humph for being. Highest regards Mik

I would like to thank Humph for being singularly responsible for introducing me to and developing a love of jazz music, and his music in particular. As someone who already had a massive record collection, Monday evenings throughout my 40's became "for the best part of an hour, the best of jazz on Radio 2". Many of the artrists I now love and collect and who I've seen live were introduced to me by Humph's show. His own vinyl albums, EP's and singles became the next phase of my collection and last year I finally got to meet my hero at Wetherby where I met him and he signed all my records. I had tickets to see him in June at Middlesbrough. I'll never forget him and my thoughts are with his family and all his fans. Gary Lewis, Wensleydale, North Yorkshire.

As a 25yr old I have grown up listening to Radio 4 and now BBC7. I have so many fond memories of Mr Lyttelton's wonderful humour and as an adult I have often cried from laughing so much whilst listening to him. I will treasure the fact I saw the SIHAC tour last year. We even got a glimpse of his musical talent. He will be missed so much.

I was very saddened to hear of the sad news, I know Humph will be remembered by many for his years in jazz. For me and I'm sure countless others, it is as host of "I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue" that I will miss most, the comic timing, the classic one liners and not-so-double-entendres. Thanks for the laughs. Humph was without doubt the star of I'm Sorry I haven't a Clue. His wit, delivered in deadpan manner, was the highlight of a brilliant program for all Clue afficionados. Humph will be greatly missed by all his many many fans. Rest in Peace Humph - and thank you.

So sorry to hear about Humph. I was fortunate enough to see him in Brighton last year and myself and parents talked and laughed about it all the way home. A fantastic man and will be sorely missed. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

I've been a fan of ISIHAC for many years and had the privilege of seeing the live show on 12 April in Harrogate. It was a wonderful evening, held together by Humph's dry and masterly delivery. He was a terrific and truly versatile performer and I - along with so many others - will greatly miss him .

I first heard Humph in a BBC Jazz Club broardcast in 1948 at a tribute to Louis Armstrong, from that day on I was a fan of his, I spent many happy hours at His club ( Macs ) in Oxford Street, you will be missed very much, but the records will always be with me to remember you as our finest Jazz trumpeter this country has ever had.

Everytime I heard Humph's voice on the radio I knew I was in for a laugh. He seemed so full of fun and life it's hard to think of him as mortal. The world will be a greyer place without him.
