My first record was Humph's Fish Seller, bought when a lad of 14. Been a fan ever since. So very sad to see his parting, along with all the other radio heroes of the 50s and 60s. Britain ain't what is used to be; sadly just a little bit more of it's now gone. We'll try to keep smiling but it getting tougher without guys like you. Au revoir Humph.

A great loss to British broadcasting and Jazz, Very sad to hear he will no longer be with us in person, but his recordings will be heard for many years to come. RIP Humph

It was such a pleasure to have seen Humph and the ISIHAC team at the Lowry. Humph was a delight to listen to over a number of years, thank you and rest in peace.

I am a huge fan of I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue finding it by accident about 6 years ago while surfing the net. Though all the cast is good I think that Mr. Lyttelton just made it all come together. His wit and his humor and warmth made it the best 1/2 hour that I could spend. He also seemed to be so vibrant and quite young at heart. As an American it took me awhile to catch all of the humor but once I mastered it I became a fan for life. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. Karen Cuyahoga Falls OH , USA

me and a friend saw Humph recording 'I'm sorry I haven't a clue' at MK theatre. To make sure everyone could laugh and be happy is a real gift and he had it in spades. it was a privelege to be there. What will they - I mean, we - do without him?

Thank you so very very much

My first jazz record was "Humph at the Conway" given to me when I was 15. Since the I have always loved jazz. I last saw Humph at the Bulls Head in the 90s and marvelled again. I feel a great loss and can only imagine what his family must feel but might be consoled somewhat by the thought of the pleasure he has given to so many over six decades. He will be sorely missed not the least for his dry wit on "I,m sorry I haven't a clue". Good bye, God bless you Humph.

Such a sad loss of a man who had the capacity, with all the other Clue team members, to make me laugh so much. Apart from being able to see him in Hammersmith with the Clue stage show earlier this year - what a night! & he blew his horn so well at the end - I also had the privilege meeting him last year (for him to sign a copy of his book 'Why No Beethoven?' for a friend) pre a recoding of Clue at the Wimbledon theatre. Charming, friendly and, for me, a great 10 minutes with a personal 'hero'. Thanks for the laugh's Humph.

Waht a loss! Irreplaceable! With an eternally youthful mind, was the best ambassador for anti-ageism.A sad day for all those to whom he brought a sense of humour which was intelligent, liberating and timeless.

In my view his was a life of all that is best about the Brits! A true gent. I will his his urbane, easy way with people and his music and humour.

I was lucky to see Humph and his band years ago and I've been a fan from then. I feel as if I have lost one of my family. Thank you for all the good music and laughs Humph.

He made me laugh so many times. I'll miss his audacious wit and humanity. I only wish that I had seen Clue live. A grateful 35 year old.
