A really sad loss. I have laughed so hard with Humph on 'I'm sorry...' He and Samantha were the highlight of many a long drive home over the last ten years for me. My deepest sympathy to his family and loved ones

Steven Boakes, 27/04/2008 11:43

His jazz was/is a great delight and his humour on ISIHAC often caused sore sides and wet cheeks. I was honoured to see Hunph and the team at Buxton recently and only regret that the few times I saw him in the show and as a musician now seems to have been too little too late.

John Shuttes, 27/04/2008 11:43

During his life Humph demonstrated a unique character. Dedication, an eagerness to please, frivolity devoid of offence and ever consideration for your fellow man.

Harold, 27/04/2008 11:43

The world seems an emptier place without Humphrey Lyttleton. I'm fortunate to have started hearing his sublime jazz programme on a regular basis a few years ago, and wipe away the tears of laughter on 'Clue'. He was a great master of intelligent, British understated humour. Thank you Humph, you gave life that little bit of extra sparkle.

Richard Ashman, 27/04/2008 11:40

So many wonderful memories... Thanks. R.I.P., Humph

I only knew of Humph through his chairmanship of ISIHAC...but he was a master of deadpan there. He will be missed

Nick Brown, 27/04/2008 11:35

I have been listening to "I'm Sorry..." for 20 years and was frequently moved to tears by Humph's comedy and sense of mischief. A huge talent, a man that will be missed by millions of devoted radio listeners who grew to love him.

Paul Lock, 27/04/2008 11:32

My deepest condolences to Humph's family. My two greatest regrets are not seeing what life was like in East Germany before the Wall came down and, now, never being able to attend a recording of ISIHAC chaired by Humph. Both were a part of our world; we thought they always would be. The world is no longer the same in either case but the loss of HL's wit, charm and gentle voice is the greater. As the Hammer of Fate meets the Sickle of Time, we say Goodbye and God Bless, Humph.

Philip C James, 27/04/2008 11:31

So so sad. I will remember forever where I was when I heard the news.

Tim Wingham, 27/04/2008 11:26

I can think of no better epitath than the one on your first page. From a huge jazz and ISIHAC fan, thanks Humph. You were a remarkable and irreplaceable man of enormous talent, warmth and wit. I will miss you. Joyce

Joyce Melican, 27/04/2008 11:24

I used to wait all week to hear Humph on the radio, and I will miss his graciousness, wit and humour. Best wishes to Humph's family and friends. The end of an era.

Sweet Cinnamon, 27/04/2008 11:23

Unique, irreplaceable, a real legend in his own time. I,m Sorry I haven't A Clue, was HIS program. I'm collecting all the series outtakes and all, of which I never get bored. Much missed already, will never be forgotton. John

John Harries, 27/04/2008 11:09

Humph gave me and millions of others much pleasure over the years - and without bodily contact. It is impossible to be sad when thinking of him, something very very few of us can aspire to.

Peter Courtney, 27/04/2008 11:09

Huge fan of ISIHAC - can't believe the reluctant chariman is gone. RIP Humph - and thanks for so many laughs.

Shona, 27/04/2008 10:56

How sad to hear the news, but we can only celebrate his life. Humph was a special and unique man who brought so much pleasure through his homour and music.

Ed STACEY, 27/04/2008 10:55

Home > Concerts > Apr 2008 May 2008 There are no planned live events featuring Humphrey Lyttelton in the near future. ......... the great man would have a good laugh at that, satire to and even beyond the end

Sillywabbit, 27/04/2008 10:43

as the crossed legged person of time approches the engaged toilet of fate, we say fair thee well, and thank you xXx

Sillywabbit, 27/04/2008 10:37

Thank you Humph for bringing so much happiness and laughter into our home. Even when we were in South Africa we would go online to the BBC website to listen again to your shows. You will always have a special place in our hearts.

Jeremy & Mary Dredge, 27/04/2008 10:29

I enjoyed Humph's jazz during the 1950s revival, and in later years I enjoyed his chairmanship of I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue. Humph always did have a clue, and it gave me a particular sense of pleasure at being alive at the same time, of breathing the same air, even though we never met. I too have dabbled in calligraphy and ornithology, and regretted that there was not enough time. Humph was one of those special humans who need 300 years to do all they wanted, and all they are capable of.

Colin Cooper, 27/04/2008 10:29

I'm sure Humph wouldn't want us to feel sad, but I will miss him on the radio - having been there for as long as I can remember, either in music or comedy - and his loss, particularly for his dry, comedy wit is of course irreplaceable
