It was with great sadness that I learned of Humph's passing, would like to pass on my sincere condolences to his family and friends. Humph was indeed a jazz legend and a true gentlemen of broadcasting.

Like many people of my age (27), I first became aware of Humphrey through his appearance on Life In A Glasshouse, from Radiohead's 2001 album 'Amnesiac'. I'd like to thank Humphrey (and his band) for appearing on that recording, because it blew my mind and opened me up to a world of music I would otherwise have ignored. Thank you Humphrey. R.I.P.

I've never felt compelled to leave a message or tribute for anyone else before but 86 was still too young. Any age would have been. God bless you Humph, you will be sorely missed.

Humph, You gave so many people so much pleasure in so many ways. I was going to attempt a double entendre but you were so much better at them.

I'm not a big jazz fan, but through ISIHAC 'Humph' was a big part of my life (and of my wife's) from the 80's onward. It's difficult to believe he's gone and his passing has left a massive hole; he's irreplaceable. Our condolences to his family and friends and our thanks for all of the fun he has given to us and to millions.

Humph for me was the pivotal person during my late teens- early twenties in London. Whenever I think of those years, he comes to mind, especially at the London Jazz Club. Not only was he a great exponent of jazz, but he was such a talented person that whatever he turned his hand to, he could do with great panache. In addition, knowing him during those years, I always found him to be gentle and kind. Here, far away and in Canada, I really feel the loss.

I have laughed so much today at the clips played of Humph. He has brought so much joy to my life, of course through Clue, but also with his wonderful music. I went to hear the Lancashire Hotpots tonight, just by Mornington Crescent, so raised a 'Hurray for Humph' as I went past. Thank you so very much.

I have listened to and loved Sorry I Haven't a Clue since 1972. Humph represented the very best of British comedy - understated, deadpan, often self deprecating humour, always with impeccable timing. He could get away with the most outrageous Samantha inuendos and we loved them - and loved him the more.
Nigel Franklin, 27/04/2008 00:47
I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue - and your wonderful wit and timing - will be listened to for years to come. Thank you for sharing your gift with us, and for providing us with so many memories.

He is there now arriving at Mornington Crecent being greeted by Melly and Rushton. He had a good life. I envy him.

So sorry to hear the sad news of Humphs death last night, it feels like the end of an era. But great thanks to a wonderful man who has given us so much joy with the many tips, over 30 something years to ISIHAC recordings. Thanks Humph, you will be very sadly missed.
