I've just been playing some old tapes of 'Clue', my ribs hurt from laughing and my eyes are sore from crying. Long live Humph.

Coral, Graham, Enid, Peter, Chris, Di and lots and lots of us remember you with great affection and thank you for making us laugh. The sadness at the news of your leaving our world has pushed me into getting back into the Radio 4 habit, thanks to broad band down here on the Med. Hoping that you're listening to all the tributes and love we're sending you. And looking forward to meeting you somewhere, some time, for one helluva giggle. Bless you Carole

Bad luck. Samantha will have to find a new job. I will miss you both.

I have been a fan since the age of 15 in 1960. There will never be another like him. A real English Gentleman.

Humph introduced me to his wit and his style of Trad Jazz on a vinyl album which I stumbled upon in my 1950's youth, viz: Jazz at The Royal Festival Hall . Still a favourite with me. People like Humph should live for ever.

A wonderful musician and brilliant wit who will be sadly missed.

I loved Humph from his broadcasts and music. He seemed to me to be one of those rare human beings whose life made the world a better place. His music moved me and his broadcasts often reduced me to tears of laughter. RIP Humph

Just thank you, really, for so many wonderful half-hours.

I'll certainly miss the humour from this wonderful chap. I hope "Clue" continues but to find another "Humph" will be downright impossible. I can only hope to be a sharp as he at his age!

I first heard Humph when my father used to listen to the repeat of Clue on Sunday's whilst cooking. After he introduced the program to me it has been a shared experience that brought us closer together. I have Humph to thank for that. I have never cried with laughter so much as when listening to Humph, and I'm going out right now to buy those recordings of Clue. Without a doubt the most wonderful comic and musical genius I have ever had the pleasure of hearing.

I have been listening to "sorry i haven't a clue" for the last 10 years, whilst communting, which has opened up to me the world of talents that is Humphrey Lyttelton. I looked forward to the drive home when Humph et al were on. He was a one off, a gentleman and a gem of anecdotes and wisdom not to be repeated.

A wonderful irreplaceable Humph. the world will not be the same... We will celebrate his life and continue to listen to recordings of this unique man, wherever we can find it. Our thought go out to his family and thank them for sharing him with us

I'm French and living in France and I'll miss him in "Sorry I haven't a clue". I've lost the nicest, funniest and best English teacher.

OK matey - I have been listening to "I'm sorry I haven't a clue" most of the day, and I'm damned if I can get over the fact that you're not here anymore. What the hell was God thinking???? We need you here Humph. I miss you very much, and I wish your family the strength to get over what is a great loss to us, but a terrific loss to them. Come back, just for a day, do you think you can get permission from the "Big Man Upstairs"?? God bless you darling, and I will carry on crying, cos I can't stop. Debs xxx

Humph was fortunate to live through an era where he could indulge his interests and talents to an ever hungry audience. I promise to blow up a storm on Humph's behalf at Lacock Abbey on 6th July 2008. Alan Bateman - Trumpet (Terry Lightfoot Band) 11 June 2008

Radio has lost one of its funniest voices who could brighten up any day. Thanks for the last 30 odd years of listening pleasure.

I have been a fan for over 50 years & was lucky enough to be at one of his last shows. My wife & I will miss his quirky sense of humour on .....Clue. Will there be a memorial service or concert for him & would it be possible for us to get tickets please.
Peter Whiting, 10/06/2008 08:58
Humph's lovely dry delivery in 'Clue' frequently had me in fits of laughter. As for his introduction to the round 'Sound Charades'.....well.....I don't think I will ever be able to think of Lionel Blair in quite the same way again!!!! Thank you for some wonderful memories :-)
