What shall we do on Sunday mornings, Humph ?

John, 26/04/2008 19:32

What a lovely man. Humph doesn't know it but with his jazz, and his humour on ISIHAC, he helped me through some really bad times. I shall miss him but always be truely grateful that he touched my life.

Martin De Little, 26/04/2008 19:32

As Humph himself might have said, when thinking of his wonderful assistant Samantha, thanks for the mammaries .... Things won't ever be quite the same again ..... David, Edinburgh

David Hughes, 26/04/2008 19:27

The end of an era of daftness, rib breaking humour and brilliant music. I hope Samantha got there in the end.

John Scott, 26/04/2008 19:27

Jazz and Comedy will never be the same again Sympathies to friends and family As the squirrel of time chews on the nuts of eternity and the irritated bulldog of fate tries to shake him off It's time to say goodbye, Humph

Fergus Halliday, 26/04/2008 19:26

A nice nice man,he was there at the very bgining for so many of us and he never went away .... God bless you Humph..a real friend to millions.

Tony Thomas, 26/04/2008 19:25

Farewell Humph, words cannot truly express how much you will be missed.

Sandy Nuttgens, 26/04/2008 19:21

The good die young and I will always remember Humph for the laughter and tears (mine!). My very best wishes and deepest sympathy to the Lyttelton family and friends to whom he was so much more.

Paul Ogborne, 26/04/2008 19:18

Truly a great. Thanks Humph for 35 years of I'm Sorry I haven't a Clue! To the Webmaster: perhaps we could have a blue plaque installed next to Willie Rushton's at Mornington Crescent, in memory of Humph!

John Lister, 26/04/2008 19:17

A true legend, a fine man, a great musician and the wittiest of wits. You will be missed, fella. One of the greatest thrills of my life was being allowed to introduce Humph at the Clacton Jazz Festival.

Jeff Merrifield, 26/04/2008 19:15

what a sad day. a national treasure, absolutely irreplaceable. thanks humph

Kevin Caswell Jones, 26/04/2008 19:15

Listening to Humph every Sunday over lunch was one of our rituals linking us back to the UK (we now live in Toronto). He made us laugh out loud every week, and we loved him dearly. Thanks, Humph, for your great good humour.

Andrew Horberry, 26/04/2008 19:14

Rod And Wendy, 26/04/2008 19:13

Bye Humph, you're going to be greatly missed but very popular in heaven!

Alex Gwinn, 26/04/2008 19:13

So many things to miss! I was born and bred in Central London many years ago and can remember going to a number of jazz clubs with my sister - the 100 club being just one. Humph is/was and always will be a legend - sorely missed but never forgotten.. Thanks for the jazz - the wit - the timing - everything!

Bill, 26/04/2008 19:11

In loving memory of one of life's greats. I'm too old to admit crying, but I wiped tears away this morning when I heard. Thank you, Humph, for all the hours of joy, laughter and happiness you brought into my life, and the lives of so many others. Deepest sympathies to the family at this time.

Alex Ottway, 26/04/2008 19:11

My wife and I would like to express our deepest sympathy. A great loss to his immediate family and to his wider 'family' who he entertained for many years across the country.

Michael Bailey, 26/04/2008 19:10

Jazz in London will never be the same. Just to let you know that I have written a small piece at www.londonist.com - and I borrowed a photo (by Lucy Lyttelton) from this website - I didn't think you'd mind.

Sally Butcher, 26/04/2008 19:07

I really can't believe he's gone. I grew up listening to this wonderful man. Good bye Humph. You brought much joy to the world.

Lucy Bailey, 26/04/2008 19:05

I used to tape Humph's radio programme as a student in the late sixties and transfer my favourite tracks to another tape. Forty years on, when I listen to some of those same tracks on CD, I still expect them to be followed by the next track on the tape. I owe so much to Humph for introducing me to so many marvellous musicians – and of course for his own music (and writing) too. What a mensch! My condolences to all who were close to him.
