Very sad news but but wonderful to be remembered for the music and the laughter.

Jane Collisson, 26/04/2008 16:50

"And now ladies and gentleman, I notice it's the end of the show." Goodbye Humph.

Oli, 26/04/2008 16:43

With deep sympathy to Humph's family and friends for this sad loss. He was a great man and will be hugely missed.

Margaret Glover, 26/04/2008 16:41

He was the closest a British radio personality could possibly have been to a friend for this expat, tucked away in Sweden. I shall miss him as much as I would miss a member of my family. Thanks for the music, Humph, and thank you beyond words for the joy you gave us all in ISIHAC. You made the world a better place in your 86 years. Thank you.

Stuart Foxley, 26/04/2008 16:40

My condolences to Humph's family, friends and colleagues. I've been a fan of Humph's work on radio for decades and can't adjust to the idea that his wit, warmth and mischief won't be around any longer. I'll always remember him fondly.

Steve Rouse, 26/04/2008 16:38

the times reviewed his memoir as 'pitch perfect and utterly its own' - I can't think of a better description for the man himself. Uttery, utterly his own. Dear Humph. My kids grew up gurgling with laughter at I'm sorry I haven't a clue. Thank God they were too little to understand most of it! Heavens, we'll miss him.

Paula, 26/04/2008 16:38

I had the pleasure of both playing with Humph and discussing our music with him from 1975 to 2004. He was a giant and will be sadly missed.

Louis Lince, 26/04/2008 16:36

Thank you Humph, you are irreplaceable & unique. I had the privilege of attending a recording of ISIHAC with my children a few years ago, very memorable and side achingly funny, A great loss to all, but leaving so many happy memories.

Sarah Flemming, 26/04/2008 16:35

My absolute favourite. Humph could turn a truly dreadful day into a hilariously memorable one. A genius!

Robin O'Neill, 26/04/2008 16:32

Thanks, Humph, for everything.

John Ridgway, 26/04/2008 16:31

... lost for words. Very, very sad that Humph has gone but what a wonderful inspiration he was.

James (Bob The Dog) Pavitt, 26/04/2008 16:30

Loved, remembered and held so dear, In minds and hearts you're always here.

As an avid listener to “I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue” For many, many years, me and my family were very saddened by the passing on of Humphrey Lyttelton. His wit and his razor-sharp and deadpan delivery were second to none, and we spent many a happy half hour , in fits of laughter in his company. And not leaving out the rest of the original team. Graeme Garden, Tim Brooke-Taylor, Barry Cryer the late Willie Rushton. and Colin Sell the fall guy to a lot of Humphs barbs. And the guests who took over when Willie died back in December 1996. Stephen Fry, Tony Hawks, Jeremy Hardy, Jack Dee, Sandi Toksvig, and last but not least the late Linda Smith. We would be grateful if you could pass on our sympathy to his family and friends and assure them that even though we never knew him personally we considered him a friend and we will miss him very much.. And So Ladies and Chentlman in the word of Chairman Humph “As the Wee Willie Winkie of Time Pops Out of The Night-Dress Eternity” We Wish Humph Goodbye

Elizabeth And Family, 26/04/2008 16:20

Humph, I've listened to you for years, both in Britain and when back in Canada. You were a great jazz musician but I will forever thank you for your humour which gave me great pleasure. Boy, what an understatement. You will be missed.

Mark, 26/04/2008 16:19

I had the pleasure of seeing Humph in both his comedy shows and his jazz band. What a brilliant raconteur, comedian, musician and generally good egg. He will be greatly missed by many millions of people who now feel that a piece of their life is now gone. I wish his family and friends the very best and want them to know that there are a lot of people who will now listen to Humph's music with a tear in their eye.

RIP Humphrey. I feel privileged to have seen I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue being recorded only weeks ago in Manchester, and witnessing his great trumpet playing and brilliant wit. I grew up listening to ISIHAC and always felt a great deal of affection for Humph. I am 21 and feel the younger generation of comics and musicians could learn a lot from this great man. There is just no one quite like him! Radio won't be the same. Condolences to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
