What a damn shame he's gone. My deepest sympathy to his family and close friends.

Thank you for being a friend.

Thanks Humph for all the joy and hapiness you brought to ordinary people, especially through "Sorry I haven't a clue" Even in times of misery and disenchantment Humph and his warmth and wit could lift the soul above the dark clouds. You will be very sadly missed. God Bless you.

Thank you for all the hours of joy. I will always remember Humph's dry tones on I'm Sorry.... and when I think of that and smile and chuckle - what better way to be remembered. Rest in peace, Humph.

Having been a regular listener to I'm sorry I have'nt a clue since childhood, Humph has always been something of an institution for me. No matter where I have been, an episode of Im sorry I havent a clue has always given me a sense of being at home. I will miss Humph a great deal. All the best wishes, Finbar Rosato

I was never a big fan of the type of jazz at which Humph excelled but I appreciated his abilities. I loved him for ISIHAC and I'll always be grateful for the hours of enjoyment Humph provided [that doesn't include the other] with his deadpan delivery, razor like wit and completely mad aphorisms. I just wish I had seen him live when I was living in the UK. A case of "I live here and can go to London whenever I like..." and never did. RIP Humph and thank you

I heard that Humph had passed away as I drove home this morning and I must confess it brought a tear to my eye. Humph has been a part of my life through Clue and his music for more years than I care to remember. I shall remember him with affection and thank his memory for all of joy he has brought to my life. Bless you Humph

Bless you Humph, for all the music and laughter you've given us for so long. You'll be sadly missed, they broke the mould.

Humph was possibly the greatest Jazz musician and comedian this country will see He even drew me a picture for my birthday.
Anthony, 26/04/2008 11:28
For years of great music and wonderfully silly comedy, so many thanks. One of the truly great all-round entertainers and irreplaceable. John

Thanks to Humph for his life, his music and fun. I thought he was indestrucible and would go on blowing for ever. I recall in the 50's he was billed as 'The Prince of Jazz' surely he must be at least 'The Crown Prince'. Thoughts with his family and friends. Andy

I would like to pass on my condolences to Humph's friends and family. His humour always cheers me up when I am feeling down and we will miss him. RIP to a true great.

I've only been listening to ISIHAC for around 5 years and I'm only 32, but I can barely think of any broadcaster or personality as much loved as Humph - his talent crossed such distinctively different arenas, and he will be sadly and fondly missed.
Christian Cawley, 26/04/2008 11:26
I shall miss him so much - the only man I know who can reduce me to tears of laughter while listening to the radio. I felt I knew him well and it feels like I have lost a close friend.
Peter Doyle-Smith, 26/04/2008 11:26
Goodbye Humph and thankyou, you made the world a little more bearable. Assuming I can get there I'm taking the tube to Mornington Crescent by way of a tribute.
Ed Whitfield, 26/04/2008 11:25
Humph was, to put it simply, one of the funniest men I've ever heard in my whole life. I consider it a privellage that I was able to see him record ISIHAC, and will always remember it. Rest in peace in Humph, you're in a better place now.
Rory Gleeson, 26/04/2008 11:25
I'm very saddened to hear of Humph's passing. I've listened regularly and laughed heartily to Humph on Clue over the years, and he'll be terribly missed. As a younger listener (under 30), it's testament that his masterful wit and delivery appealed to all ages. Thanks for the laughs Humph.
D James, 26/04/2008 11:24
I don't care how old he actually was - this still came as a huge shock. He seemed as if he would go on forever. He had a younger mind & a sharper wit than people a quarter of his age. His death has left a huge void and he will be greatly missed. How I feel won't compare to how his family feels today, but this is just to let them know that they're not alone - he was genuinely loved by thousands & thousands of people. My sincere condolences to his loved ones.

I was so sad to read of Humph's passing but gained comfort in the memories I hold of watching ISIHAC being recorded last year. It was one of the funniest nights of my life and for that my thanks go to Humph. I will miss him and his wit. My thoughts to his family and his friends....
