put very simply just "thank you"

I've not long been up and made a cup of tea; the rest of the house was (and is) asleep so I put on an old Clue episode for company and checked my email. I saw the news of Humph's passing just as I was chuckling to one of his priceless monologues. It was quite a shock and I have to confess to being a little teary eyed as a write this. Humph was, is and will continue to be a huge part of my life. Literally. You see, although I came to Clue fairly recently I have in the last couple of years listened to almost every single show (thanks to off-air recordings made by fans). What kind of unbalanced fan could listen to three decades worth of shows, you ask? Well the question really is what kind of comedy could be so brilliant and inventive to keep a sane person listening to that many shows? The answer is in no small part due to Humph's genius. And it was genius make no mistake. If as a fan I feel his passing this strongly, then I cannot even begin to imagine the loss felt by his family and friends. This may sound trivial but I'm actually sat here wondering how on earth I'll contrive to keep the TV and radio off until this evening as my mother (a lifelong fan) has a busy day meeting and showing some colleagues of my father's around town, and if she hears the news first she'll never get through it. Such is the measure of affection felt for this man. Thanks Humph. God Bless you.

Rest in peace Uncle Humph. You will be remembered fondly by the swinging cats of Britain..

I can't tell you how much joy you've brought to me and my family - May you rest in peace knowing how much you are loved.

As the barn owl of eternity swoops down to pick up Humph, I for one shall miss him greatly.

Sheila and I were at Eastbourne last month for the isihac tour and as always Humph's perfect timing had the packed house in hysterics. He cannot be replaced and it is a sad day for radio comedy and the jazz world. Our thoughts are with his family, but he will be missed by Graham, Barry, Tim , Jeremy, Colin, John and above all Samantha!

I was so saddened this morning to hear of the passing of this genuinely wonderful person. I will treasure the memory of him, he often made me laugh when everything else was going wrong in my life, a gift that I could never repay.

Humph brought so many hours of joy and laughter to my life and to so many others. From his amazing musical talent to his deadpan wit as he provided updates on Samantha's latest conquest, I adored everything that he did. What greater tribute is there than to have made such a positive impact on the lives of so many? Thank you for brightening my life: you will be sorely missed.

I am sure that i am only echoing what others have said but it feels important for me to add my own tribute. It was with immense sadness that i heard of Humphs death, i could talk about how i will have a gap in my life but i am sure that the gap is far bigger for those who knew him and so i reserve my own sense of loss and would simply like to send my comndolences to his family and friends. I hope Samantha is now sitting firmly on his right hand.

Humph always seems to have been part of my life. When I was in my teens and serving in the RAF we would travel considerable distances to hear Humph's band play. I was one of the first to buy a copy of Bad Penny Blues, became an avid listener to his jazz programmes and of course, I was addicted to 'I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue.' Thank you Humph for all the pleasure you gave me and millions of others. Yours was truly 'a life well spent'.

I have spent many hours with happy tears in my eyes thanks to Humph and his humour, now I have sad tears in my eyes having heard he has gone.

You will be sorely missed, Humph, as apart from being a great musician and band leader you were always unassuming and so helpful. I will never forget all the help you gave me when I was compiling my Bruce Turner Discography and the material you lent me. I send my sympathies to all your family, and of course to you, Susan. Thinking of you all. Mike Clutten.

Goodbye Humph may you brighten up heaven as you did the world. Thankyou.

What a Man - What a Life. Never met but went to many ISIHAC I feel his loss as a family member . This is one case where there truly never will be another.

Quite simply, incomparable. One of the brightest lights in the firmament - he brought real joy to peoples' lives. We listened [with an almost (ir)religious devotion] when we lived in France, we listened when we returned to Britain - his wit transcended cultures and countries.
